This course is taught at the UGent. Keywords: Earth observation, remote sensing Position of the course Acquiring an overview of and understanding of different possibilities of application of earth observation, both for the observation of physical properties of the Earth as for socio-economic activities and how the interaction environment-men on Earth can be observed from space. This introduction will be given by guest lecturers directly involved in the use and development of Earth observation (techniques) in a wide variety of disciplines. Contents In a half dozen guest lectures of half a day the use of earth observation techniques is explained in several themes, such as: * evolution of soil degradation; * urban development; * protection of (world) heritage; * floods: impact study; * observation of forest fires; * impact of changing climate; * evolution of deltas; * study of land slides; * … Initial competences None Final competences Understanding the possibilities of earth observation.
